In the last week alone I've gotten to visit an old Young Life girl after she had her first child, had a 2 hour phone conversation with another one finishing her first year of college, and started planning a roadtrip with a few who will graduate this year. I was reminded of the families I still feel a part of and the girls I've run into years later who had started following Jesus since high school. Some of them are even YL leaders now. I was reminded that the impact these leaders can have is not limited to four short years and the relationships that we build through Young Life can last a lifetime... Or for eternity.
I love that we serve a God who is much bigger than what we can accomplish with our own gifts and abilities and who doesn't operate with the same time restrictions we give ourselves. I love that even when we fail these kids, God does not. I love that there are stories of how He has used us in ministry that we will probably never hear. And I love that no matter how many times we watch kids graduate and move on, we don't have to say goodbye.
