It’s easy to get lost in the details. We can over think, over analyze, over plan, over schedule and over commit to improve our grades and work and ministries. We study for a test, we plan for a meeting, we strategize for a goal we hope to accomplish. And while these things can be important, necessary even, our focus can shift a little in the process.
I recently had the opportunity to join our Frisco area Young Life staff, committee, and leaders for a North Texas Regional Summit. During this 24 hour retreat we did a lot of laughing, singing, praying, and listening to various speakers as they shared from their hearts what it means to follow and serve Jesus well. It was a time for us to reflect and realign ourselves through great testimony and insight, but there was one simple phrase spoken that hit me like a ton of bricks. It’s gotta be about Jesus. Whoa. That strips down the plan, folks. That means in order for Jesus to do Jesus well, my plan and strategy may not matter. It’s gotta be about Jesus. While I have a vision for my future, maybe God has a different notion in mind. It’s gotta be about Jesus. That tells me if I’m not listening to Him and willing to take the road he’s nudging me towards, I’m choosing to ignore the Creator of the universe who has a plan for my life so unimaginable it’s beyond my comprehension.
Let’s shift our focus a little. Sure, we still have to plan and strategize things in our lives, but let’s not forget the simple truth. It’s gotta be about Jesus.
