The whole idea of God putting on flesh and moving into our neighborhood is something that still leaves me in awe when I consider it. Paul puts it this way in his letter to the Philippians:
“Rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness” (Philippians 2:7).
Jesus, the very “Word of God”, who “holds everything together by the word of his power”, brought himself to nothing so that we might know God. In some very small way, I, the rest of the staff, volunteer leaders, and other adults are able to act this out practically as we pursue relationships with kids. It’s an incredible thing to see other adults put aside their time, resources, and even what our world would consider the responsibilities of adulthood to chase high school kids and to be in their world. They’re allowing themselves to be brought low so that our high school friends might be raised up to eye-level with the Savior.
Heaven crashes into earth for a little over an hour every Monday at Young Life Club. It’s messy, it’s chaotic and it’s wonderful – and I’m so glad that it’s back.
To kick off club this year, Team Young Life made a music video that we showed at club this past Monday. I hope you have as much fun watching it as we did making it. Enjoy!
