I love Young Life camp.
The past couple of days at Windy Gap have been like a breath of fresh air. Seeing kids build relationships with each other without the pressure to be cool or their phones to distract them has been sweet to watch.
The surprises that Windy Gap has for our high school friends every day are some of the best things about camp. At home, kids aren’t used to surprises. They’re constantly connected – it seems like the only surprises they get are bad ones. Last night, while kids laughed and sang at the hoe down in the old barn at Windy Gap, they were surprised with something as simple as ice cream – I remember one girl from Frisco saying, “They just brought ice cream to us! We didn’t even have to get up to get it! How did these people know how much I love ice cream”!
Because everybody likes ice cream.
Camp gives kids a chance to be kids, even for just a week. No pressure; just their friends, leaders, laughter and Jesus.
Here are a couple of fun pictures from the last 24 hours. Last night, before club, kids participated in a rodeo (complete with a rodeo clown) and had a BBQ dinner on the hillside. Before bed, kids went to a hoe down with singing, laughing and yes, ice cream. The pool olympics were this morning (nothing wrong with a little competition)!
